Your Android phone screen lock may not be as secure as you think!

• A vulnerability affects Google Pixel phones that could allow anyone to bypass the screen lock and unlock it. Google has released a fix for this.

The recent discovery of a security risk can be intimidating- many Android users. Cybersecurity researcher David Schutz has discovered a vulnerability affecting Google Pixel phones that could allow anyone to bypass the screen lock and unlock it. According to him, unlocking it only requires a SIM card and of course access to the device.

David also shared a post on Twitter about the bug. "I found a vulnerability that allowed me to unlock any @Google Pixel phone without knowing the passcode. This may be the most impactful bug I've ever encountered. Google fixed this issue in the November 5, 2022 security patch Update your devices!" Tweet reads.

Talking about unlocking his Pixel phone, David says that he forgot his SIM PIN and started entering 3 wrong PINs. After this the SIM card got locked itself. Then he entered the available PUK code to unlock the SIM card. While the SIM got unlocked and he was able to set a new PIN, after completing the process, he ended up on the home screen.

"It was annoyingly weird. I did it again. Lock the phone, reinsert the SIM tray, reset the PIN... and I'm on the home screen again", David writes. He has also shared a video to show how the process works:
