Gujarat Assembly Elections: BJP to release first list of candidates today

BJP can release its first list of candidates for Gujarat assembly elections today.

Recently, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and senior party leader Bhupendra Singh Chudasama had announced that they would not contest elections this time.

The incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can release its first list of candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections today. According to news agency ANI, the announcement is likely to be made in the national capital by Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav and party state president CR Patil.

Sources told ANI, "The top officials of the saffron party have finalized most of the tickets out of the total 182 constituencies. The remaining powers have been vested with party president JP Nadda to decide on other seats."

This comes after the meeting of the Central Election Committee, chaired by PM Modi, went on for more than a few hours.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, party chief JP Nadda, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, state BJP chief CR Patil and members of the central election committee including BS Yediyurappa, Devendra Fadnavis and Lal Singh Rajpura. BJP core group meeting for Gujarat elections was held at Nadda's residence on Tuesday evening.

Recently, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and senior party leader Bhupinder Singh Chudasama announced that they would not contest elections this time. According to the report of ANI, former Deputy Chief Minister of the state Nitin Patel will also not contest the elections.

"I worked as chief minister for five years with everyone's cooperation. In these elections, responsibility should be given to new workers. I will not contest elections, I sent letters to seniors and conveyed to Delhi. We are the chosen ones. Will work. Make the candidate win," Rupani said.

Chudasama said that he has contested elections nine times in a row and others should get a chance.

He said, "I will not contest the assembly elections, I have told a senior party leader. I have decided that other workers should also get a chance. I have contested 9 times till now. I express my gratitude to the party." " was quoted by ANI.

Bhupendra Patel had made Rupani the Chief Minister of Gujarat in September last year. Sources said the BJP is likely to drop at least 20% of the 99 MLAs it won in the 2017 election.

Rivaba Jadeja, wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, is also likely to get a ticket from Jamnagar. Apart from this, Hardik Patel, Alpesh Thakor and those who recently joined the BJP can also be fielded.

Gujarat has been a BJP stronghold for decades and the party is seeking its seventh term in power. Polling will be held here in two phases - December 1 and December 5. Counting of votes will take place on December 8.
