DU PG Admission Through CUET From 2023-24, Now What About Merit Based Admission?

DU PG Admissions: A ten-member committee constituted to suggest a strategy for PG admissions from 2023-24 proposed a change in the pattern.

The Academic Council of Delhi University (DU) on Tuesday approved a proposal to conduct postgraduate admissions through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from the next academic cycle. There will be no existing Post Graduate (PG) entrance examination in the coming session.

According to news agency PTI, a ten-member committee formed to suggest a strategy for PG admissions from 2023-24 has proposed a change in the pattern.

As per the current system, 50% admissions are made directly to students who have obtained their undergraduate degree from the university on the basis of their merit in their qualifying examinations, while the remaining 50% seats are filled on the basis of the candidates' rank in DU postgraduate She goes entrance examinations.

The AC has approved the recommendation of PG admission through CUET with the remaining half seats under merit-based admission for DU students, a council member told PTI.

The committee had suggested that PG admissions would be done through a single window mechanism where NTA would conduct CUET from academic session 2023-24 for all categories.

It further said that a separate merit list will be prepared for CUET-PG and candidates belonging to other categories who earlier appeared in the postgraduate entrance examination.

While preparing the merit list, priority will be given to the category of the candidates who appeared in the DU entrance exam.

"While preparing the merit list, the priority shall be defined as under: The preceding category of candidates seeking admission through the Post Graduate Entrance Examination shall comprise the first 50 per cent seats and shall include those candidates who qualify in this Common University Admission take the examination on the basis of his/her eligibility to appear in the examination under this category," the committee recommended.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) had earlier this year introduced CUET for postgraduate courses as well.

A total of 66 universities including central, state and private universities had opted for CUET PG exam for admission. Delhi University is among the universities that have opted out of this entrance test and admission to PG courses will continue as per the existing procedures.
