Delhi AIIMS: Manual patient care services continue for third day due to server outage

Delhi Police, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs and even the National Investigation Agency have joined the investigation.

The investigation into the cyber attack on the servers of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi continued on Friday even as the hospital's server remained down for the third consecutive day. Security agencies were still struggling to restore order yesterday.

Delhi Police, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs and even the National Investigation Agency have joined the investigation.

An official said that the hospital is managing the patient care services manually. The internet of AIIMS has been blocked as per the instructions of the investigating agencies.

In an official statement, AIIMS said, "Investigation into the incident and efforts to bring back the digital patient care services are in progress. Action is being planned to prevent such attacks. We hope to be able to restore the affected activities soon."

Services such as outpatient and inpatient digital hospital services including smart labs, billing, report generation and appointment systems have been affected due to the servers being down at the hospitals.

The servers of India's premier medical science institute were down after a cyber attack at around 7 am on Wednesday. In this case, Delhi Police has registered an FIR against unknown people.

After the hospital authorities approached the Delhi Police about the cyber attack, the police transferred the case to its Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit.

A National Informatics Center (NIC) team working at the hospital suspects the role of ransomware in the cyber attack. The police have scanned the four physical servers set up to restore the e-hospital services.

The officials claimed that they are ready with the database and the application. Another source in news agency PTI claimed that 15 out of around 50 servers and 400 out of around 5,000 endpoint computers have been scanned using the antivirus, and the activity is continuing.
