3.7 magnitude earthquake hits Arunachal Pradesh

An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 struck Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh today, the National Center for Seismology informed on November 1.


According to the NCS, the earthquake occurred at around 4:07 am.


The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said the quake was centered 81 km north of Tawang at a depth of about 10 km.

Yesterday, an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 struck south of Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh.


Recently, the NCS released a report on earthquakes during September. As per the report, most of the earthquakes were located in the Hindu Kush region, North India (Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh), North East India. A few earthquakes of smaller magnitude were also recorded in Uttarakhand to the north; Western (Rajkot and Valsad in Gujarat, Aurangabad, Satara and Latur in Maharashtra), South (Vijayapura/Bijapur in Karnataka).


This year, 17 earthquakes of smaller magnitude (less than 3) occurred in the country between September 1 and 30. The region experienced six earthquakes of magnitude greater than 5 during the month. In addition, the report states that a total of 35 earthquakes occurred in the Indian region; Out of which seven earthquakes occurred in Maharashtra and four in Ladakh during this period.
