PM's tribute to Mulayam Singh Yadav: "Key Soldier during Emergency"

Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away today after prolonged illness. He was 82 years old.


Mr Yadav was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gurugram since August.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the death of the veteran politician and said that he was a prominent soldier for democracy during the Emergency.


He tweeted, "Mulayam Singh Yadav ji distinguished himself in UP and national politics. He was a prominent soldier for democracy during the Emergency. As Defense Minister, he worked for a stronger India. His parliamentary interventions were practical and emphasized on furthering the national interest." ,


Mulayam Singh Yadav devoted his life to popularizing the ideals of Jayaprakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia, serving the people diligently, PM Modi said in another tweet.

President Draupadi Murmu also expressed her condolences to the family and followers of Mr. Yadav.


Several politicians have condoled the death of the veteran leader.
