PM Modi wrote a letter to the President of South Korea, expressed deep sorrow over the Seoul stampede

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in a stampede during a Halloween event in Seoul, South Korea. A tweet posted by the Indian Embassy in South Korea said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his letter to Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, expresses deep sorrow at the tragic loss of people in yesterday's stampede incident in Seoul. " The embassy said that PM Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the friends and families who lost their loved ones.

Before the Prime Minister, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar condoled the death of people in the Halloween stampede in Seoul on Sunday. "Our condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones. We stand in solidarity with the Republic of Korea in this difficult time," Jaishankar tweeted on Sunday.
A total of 153 people have been killed and 133 injured in a stampede in Seoul's Itawan area.

On Saturday night, an estimated 100,000 people gathered in Itawan for the country's largest outdoor Halloween celebration since the start of the COVID pandemic. The stampede took place when the crowd reached a narrow lane in which a group of people got trapped and crushed. Most participants in the Halloween event were in their teens or twenties.

South Korea's foreign minister said on Sunday that at least 26 foreign nationals from 14 countries were among the dead. On Monday, Prime Minister Han Dak-soo promised a thorough investigation into the stampede. Reuters news agency reported that Han said his government would make the necessary changes to prevent such an accident from happening again.
