Earlier in the day, the Shinde faction submitted three alternative party names and election symbols to the Election Commission, of which one name and two symbols were the same as those submitted by Mr Thackeray's group on Sunday.


The proposed alternative party names of the Shinde faction were Shiv Sena (Balasaheb Thackeray), 'Balasaheb ki Shiv Sena' and 'Balasaheb ki Shiv Sena'. His three proposed symbols - which were rejected by the Election Commission - were the trishul (trident), the 'rising sun' and the 'mace'.

Meanwhile, jailed Shiv Sena MP and Uddhav loyalist Sanjay Raut remarked that "a new symbol will bring a new revolution for the party".

He said freezing of the party's election symbol is not a new phenomenon and such an incident has happened thrice in the past with Congress, an ally of the Uddhav faction in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance.

The Thackeray faction had earlier moved the Delhi High Court challenging the Election Commission's decision to ban the Shiv Sena party's symbol and name.


The petition alleged that the Election Commission sealed the symbol on "false apprehensions" as no candidate of the Shinde faction would contest the upcoming Andheri bypoll.

Hitting out at Mr Thackeray and his faction, BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the 'cry' of the Uddhav faction is purely political and targeting institutions has become a fashion whenever they do not get a favorable decision from them. Is. ,
