After Reaction on President Murmu's Remarks, Congress Leader Udit Raj Clarifies: 'Personal View, Not Party'

This is the second time in recent months that a Congress leader has found himself in the limelight for his remarks about the President.

A day after Congress leader Dr Udit Raj protested over his remarks on President Draupadi Murmu, he clarified that his statement was his personal view and did not represent the party he represented.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Raj had said: "No country should get a President like Draupadi Murmu ji. Chamchagiri also has its limits. It is said that 70% of the people of Gujarat eat salt. If you yourself live life by eating salt, you will know."

My statement regarding Draupadi Murmuji is mine and it has nothing to do with Congress. His candidature and campaign was in the name of Adivasi, it does not mean that he is no longer a Adivasi. My heart cries that when SCs/STs rise to higher positions, they leave their communities and become mothers.

On Thursday, he tweeted a clarification saying, "My statement regarding Draupadi Murmuji is mine and has nothing to do with Congress."

“His (Draupadi Murmu's) candidature and campaign was in the name of tribal, it does not mean that he is no longer a tribal. My heart cries that when SCs/STs rise to higher positions, they leave their communities and become mothers,” said Raj.

BJP hit out at Congress leader, spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "The words used by Congress leader Udit Raj for President Murmu are worrying, unfortunate. This is not the first time he has used such words. Congress K Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury did too. It shows his anti-tribal mindset."

This is the second time in recent months that a Congress leader has found himself in the limelight for his remarks about the President. Earlier, during the monsoon session of Parliament, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury addressed President Murmu as 'President' during a speech, which was criticized by other members of the House. However, Choudhary later apologized for the remarks.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has sent a notice to the Congress leader over his statement about President Murmu and asked him to apologise.
