PM Modi praises the Jan Dhan Yojana for increasing financial inclusion as it enters its tenth year

The success of the Jan Dhan Yojana, according to PM Modi, can be attributed to two factors: the inclusion of 30 crore women in the banking system and the over 53 crore individuals holding deposits of Rs 2.3 lakh crore.

In honor of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana's tenth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that while a Congress administration nationalized banks forty-five years before, the impoverished never had access to banking.

Modi said, "Today marks a decade since the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched," in a post on the social networking site LinkedIn. This program, in my opinion, was more than simply a policy; it was an attempt to create an India where all citizens, regardless of socioeconomic status, had access to the official banking system.

According to Modi, things were much different in 2014 when he took government. He remarked, "Access to banking was a distant dream for almost half of our households, even though it had been almost 65 years since Independence."

The irony of this issue is heightened by the memory that 45 years ago, the Congress government nationalized banks, acting on behalf of the underprivileged! However, Modi said in the article titled "A decade of financial inclusion - the PM Jan Dhan Yojana" that "the poor never got access to banking."

"When the Jan Dhan Yojana was launched, I recall the skepticism that surrounded it too," wrote Modi. Could it really be viable to open up the financial system to so many individuals, some people questioned? Will this endeavor result in any noticeable adjustments? Indeed. The Indian people were resolute in their pursuit of making the challenge a reality, despite its immense magnitude.

There are two components to the Jan Dhan Yojana's success. One may be found in the figures: Currently, more than 53 crore individuals who never thought they would visit a bank have bank accounts. The total amount of deposits in these accounts exceeds Rs 2.3 lakh crore. The trend of financial inclusion outside of metro regions is shown by the fact that over 65% of accounts are located in rural or semi-urban areas. Modi added, "Direct transactions of over Rs 39 lakh crore have occurred.

However, the second section extends beyond the striking figures. In terms of women's empowerment, the Jan Dhan Yojana has shown to be revolutionary. He said, "Nearly 30 crore women have been included into the financial system.

Similarly, millions of SC, ST, and OBC families have benefited from the scheme's benefits as well as other advantages that come with having a bank account. Additionally, they have helped middle-class and neo-middle-class families. The effect of the government's social security programs, including the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and the Atal Pension Yojana, would not have been possible without the Jan Dhan Yojana, MUDRA Yojana, and other initiatives, Modi said.

The Jan Dhan accounts, according to Modi, have developed into an essential component of the JAM trinity—Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and mobile. He said, "This trinity's historic contribution was to eradicate the scourge of middlemen and touts who, for decades, prospered from public loot."

"Over 40% of real-time digital payments in the world happen in India," stated Modi, noting that the country is a global leader in digital payments.
