Texas prisoner attempting to steal a DA employee's vehicle with a knife escapes

The 35-year-old Joshua Nigel Thomas Sanders was wanted. The district attorney's office employee who was detained without her will did not suffer any harm.

After holding a district attorney's employee against her will and attempting to seize her vehicle, a knife-wielding Texas prisoner made an escape on Thursday after making an appearance in a Houston court, according to authorities.

Law enforcement was looking for Joshua Nigel Thomas Sanders, 35, on Thursday night after his escape, which happened at around 3:30 p.m.

"He appeared in court today, and it seems that while returning from the court, he helped someone escape," Assistant Chief Phillip Bosquez of the Harris County Sheriff's Office said at a press conference.

"After making his getaway and getting into her car on the street, he approached a woman." In a matter of feet, she totaled the vehicle, he said.

According to Bosquez, Sanders' final confirmed sighting on video was when he exited the damaged vehicle and fled down the street.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office said that the lady who was detained at knifepoint was eventually freed without incident.

Bosquez said, "She was obviously shaken up, but she was not injured." When the event happened, the lady was exiting the building after her shift.

According to Bosquez, Sanders, who was characterized as a vagrant, was being held on three charges of burglary and one count of having a firearm illegally in his possession by a felon.pHe said, "We really think we'll run him to the ground." The public's help in finding him was requested by the sheriff's office.

Although Sanders is thought to have possessed a knife during the escape, Bosquez did not say where it may have come from. "Anywhere once he left the prison," he said.

An inquiry on the escape's mechanism is still under progress.

Instead of contacting Sanders, anybody who spots him should call 911 or Crime Stoppers. He weighs 140 pounds and is estimated to be 5 feet, 5 inches tall.
