On July 8, PM Modi will go to Russia to talk about defense, energy, gas, and other strategic interests of India
According to CNN-News18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Russia on July 8 to talk about bilateral ties between Moscow and New Delhi.
According to senior government sources, the visit would include talks on defense, energy and gas, and other strategic concerns of India.
Following PM Modi's recent visit to the G7 conference in Italy, this trip is crucial since the US presidential election is only a few months away and the majority of the world's leadership is undergoing transition.
Vladimir Putin and national security advisor Ajit Doval have previously met many times, and PM Modi's visit may be seen as a continuation of India's attempts to determine its next course of action.
When the Prime Minister and the Russian President last met in 2022 in Uzbekistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting, he informed Putin that the modern period is "not of war."
The strong bilateral relationship between the two nations makes this visit even more significant. Given that India is heavily reliant on Russia for a number of defense purchases, India does not want Russia to become entirely dependent on China for everything.
According to sources, the West may benefit from this visit as well since, in the current context of the Russia-Ukraine dispute, only India is seen as a viable mediator.
Even as all eyes are on the India-Russia relationship, which has emerged as a pivotal role in world geopolitics, discussions on matters like as defense, the China factor, and mediation on Ukraine, among other matters, that were previously handled by NSA Doval, will now take place at the highest level, according to the sources.
