Early on Sunday morning, a large avalanche struck the Gandhi Sarovar, which lies four kilometers above Kedarnath Dham. However, no one was killed and no property was damaged, according to a district official.

Due to the ongoing Char Dham Yatra to the Uttarakhand sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, the temple is now rather crowded with people.
A massive snow cloud was seen plummeting down the mountainside at a high rate of speed before coming to a rest in a deep gully. The avalanche happened under the snow-covered Meru-Sumeru mountain range, which is situated at the upper end of the Kedarnath valley, in the upper Gandhi Sarovar area of the Chorabari glacier.
According to Nandan Singh Rajwar, the district disaster management officer for Rudraprayag, there were no casualties or property losses as a result of the avalanche. Rajwar said that the whole region, including the Kedarnath valley, is secure.
When the avalanche happened, Gopal Singh Rauthan, a worker with Garhwal Mandal Development Corporation, was inside the temple. He said that the devotees who saw this natural phenomena for around five minutes were quite curious. On June 8, there was another avalanche in the Chorabari glacier. Three avalanches occurred in the region in September and October of 2022.
In May and June of 2023, there were five such avalanche episodes recorded on the Chorabari glacier. After that, researchers from the Wadia Institute and the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing surveyed the region both on land and in the air to get a comprehensive assessment of the state of affairs. The scientific team went on to characterize these instances as typical for the Himalayan region, although they did stress the need to bolster security in the Kedarnath Dham area.
