Only two of the four Indian students who drown in Russia had their remains found

In order to repatriate the students' corpses, the Indian embassy in St. Petersburg is working with the local government.

The foreign affairs ministry stated on Friday that four Indian students from Maharashtra attending a Russian university perished in a river during an excursion, while a fifth was rescued and is undergoing treatment.

At Veliky Novgorod's Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University, all of the students were enrolled. They were taking a stroll along the Volkhov river when the tragedy happened. So far, two corpses have been found by local emergency services, and they are still looking for the other two victims.

The ministry of foreign affairs released a statement saying, "Our consulate in St Petersburg remains in contact with the university as well as local authorities while is providing all possible assistance."

The ministry expressed its sympathies to the families, noting that all five of the children involved in the event were from Maharashtra's Jalgaon district.

According to the ministry, the student who was prevented from drowning is now getting medical care.

In order to repatriate the students' corpses, the Indian embassy in St. Petersburg is working with the local government. The Jalgaon district government and families are also in communication with the embassy.

According to a PTI report, the deceased students were named as Malik Gulamgous Mohammad Yakub, Jishan Ashpak Pinjari, Jia Firoj Pinjari, and Harshal Anantrao Desale. The pupil who lived was identified as Nisha Bhupesh Sonawane. They ranged in age from eighteen to twenty.

According to the report, an unidentified official said that the kids were walking along the Volkhov river when they got into the water. According to a family member, Jishan Pinjari and three other people drowned as he and his parents were on a video conversation.

After crossing the Volkhov River, Jishan sent his family a video message. When a powerful wave carried Jishan and the others away, his father and other family members were begging for them to leave the waters, the family member told local media.

Siblings Jishan and Jia Pinjari were from Amalner in the Jalgaon district. Desale was a native of the Jalgaon district's Bhadgaon. The Jalgaon district collector, Ayush Prasad, said that plans are in place to transport the remains to India.

In a telegram to the Indian ambassador to Russia, the management of Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University offered its sympathies. "The catastrophe was unplanned and unintentional. Nisha Bhupesh Sonawane made it through. She is now under the medical staff's care," an official from the institution said.
