Growth in coal imports has slowed during the last ten years, from over 21% to less than 2.5%: Government


According to a statement from the coal ministry, "Furthermore, CAGR of imported coal share stood at 13.94 per cent during the period spanning fiscal year 2004-05 to 2013-14 while the same figure collapsed to around -2.29 per cent" during the previous ten years.


India is moving closer to energy security self-reliance by strategically focusing on using its own coal resources and utilizing cutting-edge technical solutions, according to a statement from the coal ministry.


The government said on Friday that, as the nation works toward energy security self-reliance, the annual increase in coal imports into India has decreased to only 2.49 percent during the previous ten years, up to FY24.


From 2004–05 to 2013–14, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of coal imports was a noteworthy 21.48%. However, according to a statement from the coal ministry, the CAGR of coal import from 2014–15 to 2023–24 was just 2.49 percent.


"Moreover, CAGR of imported coal share stood at 13.94 per cent during the period spanning fiscal year 2004-05 to 2013-14 while the same figure collapsed to around -2.29 per cent" in the ten years before to that.

It also said that India is the world's second-largest user of dry fuel and has the fifth-largest coal reserves.
