President Biden and the 78-year-old Trump engaged in a heated argument on Thursday for almost ninety minutes, covering a wide range of topics including the economy, immigration, foreign policy, abortion, and national security. Both leaders referred to one another as liars and the worst US president ever.

CNN Poll: Most debate viewers believe Donald Trump prevailed against Joe Biden.

During the first presidential debate, former US President Donald Trump performed better than US President Joe Biden. This is a departure from 2020, when debate observers saw the 81-year-old Democrat to be outperforming his Republican opponent.

President Biden and the 78-year-old Trump engaged in a heated argument on Thursday for almost ninety minutes, covering a wide range of topics including the economy, immigration, foreign policy, abortion, and national security. Both leaders referred to one another as liars and the worst US president ever.

A CNN flash survey conducted by SSRS found that 67% of registered debate viewers thought Trump performed better than Clinton. Only 33% disagreed.

The first of three presidential debates conducted in Atlanta was hosted by CNN.

The same people said, 55% to 45%, before to the debate that they thought Trump would outperform Biden.

The poll's findings only represent the opinions of those who participated in the discussion; they do not accurately reflect the opinions of the whole electorate in terms of demographics, political inclinations, or degree of political interest.

The audience for the debate was somewhat more Republican-leaning than all registered voters in the country, with debate viewers five points more likely to be Republican than Democratic.

However, the outcomes differ from 2020, when CNN noted that debate viewers thought Biden performed better than Trump in their respective presidential debates.

Those who watched the debate on Thursday night had little genuine trust in either Biden or Trump's abilities to govern the nation, with 57% of viewers saying they had no real faith in Biden's capacity and 44% in Trump's.

These figures essentially remain the same as the pre-debate survey, which showed 55% of respondents saying they didn't trust Biden and 47% saying they didn't trust Trump.

Although neither candidate does well on this measure, the research found that just 36% of debate viewers now say they have great faith in Trump's capacity to govern the nation, compared to 14% who feel the same way about Biden.

565 registered US voters who said that they watched the debate on Thursday participated in a text-message survey conducted by CNN. CNN emphasized that the poll results are indicative of the opinions of debate viewers alone.
