The PM's advisor to Bangladesh on collaboration with India says we should broaden our horizons


Rehman mentioned his meeting with CEOs in the sector and said that the Confederation of Indian sector (CII) suggested that Bangladeshi companies think about growing into India.


Salman F. Rehman, the private industry and investment adviser to Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reaffirmed on Friday the need to broaden the scope of economic cooperation with India in order to significantly strengthen relations between the two countries.


"Businesses in Bangladesh have to consider other regions of India... That's something we ought to do. We need to broaden our perspective... Rehman told ANI that "many of the CEOs expressed interest in the FMCG, IT, energy, healthcare, and agriculture sectors."


Notably, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came in India on Friday for a two-day state visit at the request of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is the first inbound bilateral state visit since the Indian government was formed after the 18th Lok Sabha elections.


Rehman mentioned his meeting with CEOs in the sector and said Hasina welcomed the Confederation of Indian sector's (CII) suggestion that Bangladeshi companies think about growing into other regions of India.


The Private Industry and Investment Advisor to Sheikh Hasina told ANI, "All the CEOs that we met today, some of them are already invested in Bangladesh." Furthermore, a few of them expressed a desire to become more involved in Bangladesh. They'd want to put in more money. Some want to investigate the possibilities... According to CII, Bangladesh and northeastern India have seen a significant concentration. There has been a great deal of economic collaboration. However, Prime Minister Hasina enthusiastically endorsed a very intriguing idea made by CII.


Bangladesh is well situated to export its goods to South East Asian nations, Bhutan, and North East India, and several steps have been made to improve connection.


Salman F. Rehman clarified that Prime Minister Hasina's focus on neighboring nations and Prime Minister Modi's "Neighbourhood First" strategy both reinforce Bangladesh's tight ties with India.


"We have a strong connection with India. "Neighbourhood first," as Prime Minister Modi has consistently emphasized. Prime Minister Hasina consistently declares that her neighbors would come first. In keeping with that connection, this visit is happening. There is a reciprocal visit. This visit was scheduled a long time ago. Elections in Bangladesh and India occurred in between... We've arrived now that both elections have concluded. Our goal is to strengthen and expand upon the current positive and cordial relationships. Our economic collaboration between the two nations is growing as a result of this connection, particularly at the private sector level but also at the government level, Rehman told ANI.


Salman F. Rehman emphasized Sheikh Hasina's visit while saying that the two prime ministers' reaffirmation of the two countries' strong link and friendship is the most significant result to be anticipated tomorrow.


"The most important output which can be expected tomorrow is going a reaffirmation of the very, very strong bond as well as relationship between our two countries both the prime ministers are going to reiterate that," Rehman said.


On June 9, Prime Minister Modi and the Union Council of Ministers were sworn in, and PM Hasina was one of the world leaders present.

India and Bangladesh have established a complex connection characterized by historical and cultural similarities as well as close proximity. Warm relations between the two neighbors have become stronger under Prime Ministers Modi and Hasina's direction.


On March 18 of last year, the two presidents jointly opened the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline.


In addition, PM Hasina took part virtually in the Voice of the Global South Summit's first session on January 11, 2023, and its second session on November 17, 2023.


Bangladesh took part in a number of ministerial-level events as a guest nation invited to India's G20 Presidency in 2023, including the G20 Foreign Ministers Council and the G20 Development Ministers Meeting in March and June of that year, respectively.


Virtually, the Akhaura-Agartala cross-border rail connection, the Khulna-Mongla Port train line, and Unit II of the Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant in Bangladesh were all launched on November 1, 2023, by both prime ministers together.
