A strategic agreement between MG Motor India and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) was launched with the aim of improving the nation's infrastructure for charging electric vehicles (EVs).

In accordance with this agreement, MG and HPCL will collaborate to deploy 50kW/60kW DC fast chargers at strategic sites that span Indian cities and roads. By making more EV chargers available, the partnership hopes to make EV users' long-distance and transcontinental travels more convenient.

"Our partnership with HPCL is yet another step to developing the EV charging infrastructure in India to energise while improving customer confidence in EVs," said Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer, MG Motor India. Because of HPCL's extensive network and substantial presence in India, our charging solutions will be easily accessible to both current and potential EV consumers nationwide.

The public-mode network of chargers, according to both firms, is intended for all EVs that are compatible with the CCS 2 charging standard, such as the MG ZS EV. Customers of MG will be able to use these charging stations using the MyMG App and can find them using the integrated HPCL network finding tool.

"With this partnership with MG Motor India, HPCL would leverage the vehicle base of MG to increase the utilization of its chargers installed throughout India," said Rajdip Ghosh, Chief General Manager, Highway Retailing, HPCL. In order to enhance customer satisfaction and strategically expand the infrastructure for EV charging, HPCL will track charger use. In the near future, this synergy will contribute to the expansion of EVs.

In addition, he said that HPCL plans to build 5,000 electric car charging stations by December 2024, adding to its network of more than 22,000 gasoline stations around the country.

HPCL and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) have established an MOU to work together to build public charging stations across India.
