CEO of ChatGPT creator OpenAI Sam Altman and his spouse Mulherin will give the majority of their fortune

Oliver Mulherin and Sam Altman, who are credited with starting ChatGPT maker OpenAI, have pledged to donate the majority of their income.

Oliver Mulherin and Altman, who became a millionaire lately, have both joined the Giving Pledge. In 2010, Warren Buffett, Melinda French Gates, and Bill Gates founded The Giving Pledge.

The Giving Pledge: What Is It?

Some of the richest people and families in the world have made a promise known as "The Giving Pledge" to donate the bulk of their fortune to organizations that deal with the most important social issues. Melinda French Gates, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffett introduced it in 2010.

The Pledge invites billionaires to make a public pledge in their wills or during their lifetimes to donate at least half of their wealth to philanthropy.

Making the Giving Pledge is a moral commitment rather than an enforceable legal agreement. Participants also get together once a year to talk about the difficulties, achievements, and tactics of charity.

MacKenzie Scott, Reid Hoffman, Marc Benioff, Elon Musk, Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg, and Priscilla Chan are among the other well-known signatories to the Giving Pledge.

Altman is very appreciative of the social institutions

In their pledge letter, Altman and Mulherin conveyed their sincere appreciation for the social structures that made their success possible, saying, "If it weren't for the many people's hard work, intelligence, generosity, and dedication to improving the world, who built the scaffolding of society that let us get here, we would not be making this Pledge. All we can do is express our sincere thanks, make a commitment to give back, and do our best to raise the scaffolding a little bit."

Mulherin and Altman want to concentrate their contributions on advancing technology in ways that encourage general abundance.

It's important to note that Altman has no stock in OpenAI. His varied financial portfolio, which includes holdings in Stripe and Reddit, is the source of his fortune.

Oliver Mulherin: who is he?

According to The New York Times, Mulherin is an Australian software programmer who lives in San Francisco and owns a ranch in Napa, California, with Altman.

Sam Altman wed Oliver Mulherin, his lifelong boyfriend, in a ceremony by the sea in January of this year. After wedding pictures started making the rounds on social media sites like X (formerly Twitter), Altman confirmed the news.

On his personal Instagram account, Altman posted pictures and a message that read, "My best friend and love of my life."
