A distraught surfer's lover interrupts the stillness

The parents of Australian brothers who were "executed" during a botched robbery while vacationing in Mexico have located and recognized their sons at a morgue.

Authorities have verified that the three remains discovered in northwest Mexico are those of two Australian brothers and their American buddy who disappeared while surfing, according to the boys' family.

While camping in the infamous state of Baja California, friends Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, an American, and Jake and Callum Robinson, 30 and 33, all from Perth, were reported missing last week.

Over the weekend, four bodies—including theirs—were discovered 15 meters below a concealed well that was close to the trio's last known encampment.

In a statement made on Monday afternoon, authorities said, "The state prosecutor's office confirms that the bodies found in the water supply in the area known as La Bocana, south of Ensenada, correspond to Jake as well as Callum (Robinson), of Australian origin, as well as the American (Jack) Carter."

"The confirmation occurs when the victims' family members are able to positively identify them; genetic testing is not required."

Attorney General Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez of Baja California said earlier on Monday that it was thought the men had been shot in the head while thwarting a robbery.

Nearly a week after the victims were found in the well on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Ms. Andrade Ramirez said the investigation into a killing was under progress.

On Monday morning, Australian time, the prosecutor said that

Three individuals have been accused with crimes similar to abduction.

"The assailants passed by in their car," Ms. Andrade Ramirez said.

"They came over with the plan to steal their car and use the tires and other components to install them on the older pickup truck they were driving.

Naturally, the victims struggled when they were approached and apprehended.

"And these people, the attackers, pulled out a gun and killed the person attempting to stop the car theft first. Then other people joined the fight to protect their property and their attacked companion, and they also killed them."

The remains were located next to the burned-out vehicle that the three had rented.

According to Ms. Andrade Ramirez, it was "literally almost impossible to find" the well where the remains were discovered since it was covered with boards.

Over the last two days, Emily Howarth, Callum Robinson's girlfriend, has offered a number of heartfelt tributes to her lover on social media.

"One of the most beautiful and loving souls," they said of him.

She said in a post, "I'd give anything for one more koala hug."

I feel like my heart is broken into a million pieces. I am at a loss for words at the moment.

Gory details concerning the brothers' map of Mexico

It comes as one of the Australian brothers' guilt-stricken friends said that he offered the two a hand-drawn map that would show them where they would last be spotted.

It coincides with fresh information from Mexican officials on the suspects in the deaths of American buddy Jack Rhoad and twins Jake and Callum Robinson.

Photographer Randy Dible from San Diego is overcome with remorse upon learning of the death of his friend and neighbor, Callum. Three weeks before, Dible had informed Callum about his preferred surfing spot in Baja, the serene and breathtaking La Bocana.

Dible sketched Callum a map on a napkin since he was an eager surfer looking for nice areas to surf. He was about to join him but had to back out due to a job opportunity.

"I told him about this place because I'd been traveling through that country for 30 years, so I knew exactly where to go and I knew it like the back of my hand," Dible said to The Australian.

"And that's precisely where he was murdered."

He claims that a part of him wishes he had made the journey since there's a chance he could have stopped everything. The thing he regrets most, however, is informing his buddy about La Bocana.

"I feel terrible; I wish I hadn't met him that day. I regret it. It's just now beginning to sink in.

Hayley Jacobs, a close friend of Callum's, has mentioned meeting him the morning before he departed for Mexico. But when he didn't communicate with her throughout the journey, she had a strong suspicion that something wasn't right.

She told Nine, "I think he's mad at me because I didn't hear from him and my mum asked me if I heard from them."

"I don't know what's going on, but something doesn't seem right, so I think he's mad at me."

She described her acquaintance as someone who "lit up a room" and as really remarkable.

"When we were having dinner at a restaurant and he asked for the name of the waiter, he would write his name down in his notes and his phone along with the way he knew how he connected with him," the woman said.

"He gave me the notes, and hundreds of people were listed that he had met."

She said that while he was playing lacrosse out of America, his ultimate ambition was to go back to Australia and have a family.

According to local media, shell casings were discovered in the campground at La Bocana, a popular surfing place in Santo Tomas, where the three were last seen.

Although the remains discovered in the well have not yet been formally identified, friends of the Robinson family have started making donations to a GoFundMe campaign.

In its first day, it brought in about US$80,000 (AU$121,000).

Three people are taken into custody.

Zeta Tijuana and Talk Baja, local Spanish-language media outlets, said on Saturday that the three suspects had been identified by the police as Jesús Gerardo Garica Cota (alias El Kekas), his girlfriend Ari Gisel García Cota, and his brother Cristian Alejandro García.
