In Puerto Rico, Joe Biden wins the Democratic primary

Due to recent austerity restrictions enforced by a federal control board that controls the island's budget, Puerto Rico was only permitted to establish twelve voting centers this year, as opposed to over one hundred in prior years.

On Sunday, in the US territory of Puerto Rico, President Joe Biden emerged victorious in the Democratic presidential primary.

Due to recent austerity restrictions enforced by a federal control board that controls the island's budget, Puerto Rico was only permitted to establish twelve voting centers this year, as opposed to over one hundred in prior years.

The Democrats of Puerto Rico also selected 36 of the 65 delegates they want to send to the National Democratic Convention, which will take place in Chicago in late August, on Sunday.

Despite being citizens of the United States, Puerto Ricans are not permitted to cast ballots in presidential elections.

The president of Puerto Rico's Democratic Party, Charlie Rodríguez, said earlier this year that he planned to organize a symbolic presidential election in November for people who were ready to choose their future leader.
