Hospitalized upon reversal of conviction, Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie mogul, was admitted to the hospital a few days after his 2020 New York rape conviction was overturned, according to his attorney.

Arthur Aidala reported that on Friday, he was transferred to a hospital in Manhattan. He was found guilty separately of rape in Los Angeles, and he is still incarcerated.

According to Mr. Aidala, his client's health was "kind of a train wreck."

He seems to need a great deal of physical assistance. He told AP, "He's got a lot of problems."

Later, Mr. Aidala stated that Mr. Weinstein was transferred to the hospital after the New York City Department of Correction found that he required "immediate medical attention" in a statement to CBS, the BBC's US partner.

"A myriad of tests have yet to be performed on Harvey and he is being kept for observation," he said.

Weinstein remained under arrest at Bellevue Hospital, according to a prisons department spokesman.

He was transferred from the Mohawk Correctional Facility, where he has been housed since 2023, to the Rikers Island prison facility on Friday.

Weinstein's attorneys have previously said that the former film producer has had a number of medical conditions, such as diabetes, sleep apnea, and difficulties with his heart and eyes. He spent five days in the hospital in 2020 due to persistent chest discomfort and cardiac issues.

According to the Associated Press, Mr. Aidala said he would see Weinstein on Monday before to his Wednesday court appearance.

Earlier this week, the New York Court of Appeals reversed Weinstein's conviction, citing prosecutors' use of witnesses whose allegations did not form part of the charges against him as grounds for not giving him a fair trial.

The court granted a fresh trial, ruling that his previous behavior had led to an unfair trial.

In 2020, Weinstein's trial resulted in his conviction for the sexual assaults of two women: Jessica Mann, a former aspiring actress, in 2013 and former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006. He spent 23 years behind bars.

The defense team for Weinstein claimed that the accusers and the film boss had had consensual sex.

In a related case, Weinstein was given a 16-year prison term in California last year for sexually assaulting an Italian actress and model at a Beverly Hills hotel in 2013.
