Congress politician Randeep Surjewala's comments against Hema Malini result in a 48-hour campaign ban from the EC
Lok Sabha elections: Surjewala received a show-cause notice from the poll authority last week for his allegedly "undignified and vulgar" statements directed at the actor-turned-politician.

On April 16, the Election Commission prohibited Congressman Randeep Surjewala from participating in any political events for 48 hours due to his comments made against MP Hema Malini of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"The commission, under Article 324 of the Constitution along with everything other powers enabling in this behalf, bars Surjewala from holding any form of public meetings, public processions, public rallies, road shows along with interviews, public utterances in media (electronic, print, social media) etc. in connection alongside ongoing elections for 48 hours from 6 pm on April 16," it stated.
Surjewala received a show-cause notice from the election board last week for his allegedly "undignified and vulgar" statements directed at the actor who is now a politician.
"The commission without discrimination to any order/notice issued or to be issued subsequently concerning him in the matter relating to MCC violations, hereby, strongly condemns the questionable statement made by him during the election campaign held in Haryana as well as reprimands Randeep Surjewala for the misconduct," the European Commission stated.
