World No. 1 American Nelly Korda won the first women's major of the year at the Chevron Championship in Texas, matching an LPGA record by winning five straight events.

The leader, Ryu Hae-ran of South Korea, led the final round by one shot, but Korda, 25, was one shot behind.

However, she finished on 13 under, winning by two strokes, thanks to her three-under par play on a windy course.

This is her career's second major.

Annika Sorenstam (2005) and Nancy Lopez (1978) are the only two players who have won five straight LPGA tournaments.

Korda said, "That back nine felt like the longest back nine of my entire life," as he concluded with flair, making a birdie on the last hole.

"The last nine holes were a little bit of a slog, but I'm glad I won.

"On the back nine, I could clearly feel the nerves getting the better of me. It's significant. Lifting the big trophy is something I've always desired since I was a tiny child.

"As I previously said, I can now at last relax and savor the occasion since I was undoubtedly somewhat anxious. My stomach hurts so bad."

Maja Stark of Sweden had a late charge to finish second on 11 under, while Lauren Coughlin of the United States, who recorded the lowest round of the day at four under, finished equal third on 10 under with Brooke Henderson of Canada.

Ryu came in fifth place with a round score of 74.

The English team of Lottie Woad, Charley Hull, and Georgia Hall—who took home the Augusta National Women's Amateur earlier this month—shared a share of 23rd place at one under at the completion of the round.

Stephanie Meadow of Northern Ireland was a shot further back.
