By September, THDC India hopes to put a Rs 12,000-crore coal-based thermal power plant into service

In response to a question on the company's intentions to establish coal-based capacity, the official said that THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) is constructing a 1,320 megawatt (2X660 MW) Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

According to a senior business official, state-owned THDC India Ltd plans to start up its coal-based power plant by September 2024, entering the domestic thermal energy market.

Now, the Uttarakhand-based organization can generate around 1,587 MW of electricity via installed capacity, of which 1,424 MW comes from hydropower, 113 MW from wind, and 50 MW from solar.

Regarding the project's schedule, the representative said, "Work is proceeding at full speed. We are optimistic that the first 660 MW unit will be operational by September of this year, and the second unit by March of 2025. It's an around Rs 12,000 crore project." The Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant (KSTPP) has cost Rs 9,428.30 crore up to January 2024, a company official said, adding that almost 85% of the construction has been finished.

According to the official, the business is now installing an environmentally friendly carbon capture system at the Khurja STPP, which will absorb CO2 emissions.

The official revealed the project's specifics and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi placed the project's foundation stone on March 9, 2019. The project occupies 1,200.843 acres of land.

According to the official, the project is an integrated thermal power plant that runs on coal and is connected to the Amelia coal mine, which is situated in the Madhya Pradesh district of Singrauli.

When finished, the plant will produce 9,264 million power units (MUs) per year, or 85% of the plant load factor (PLF).

According to the Ministry of Power's power allocation, UP will get 64.7% of the total electricity produced (854 MW), with the remaining portion going to other recipients.

The official gave the following update on the project's status: "Recently, the engine moving on railway siding (downline) from Danwar station to the plant yard marked a milestone towards the commissioning of Khurja STPP. It would enable the delivery of coal rakes via Danwar station from Amelia coal mines to Khurja STPP." He also said that a number of other project-related tasks, such as Unit 1's boiler light up and the aux boiler light up, had been completed on time.
