A New York man faces charges related to a series of assaults on women
Following a series of alleged hate crimes in New York City, police have detained a guy on suspicion of attacking unidentified women.
Attacks in March and April allegedly included Daquan Armstead, 31, hitting women in the head, back, and face.
None of the seven ladies claimed to have known who assaulted them.
The ladies who are the targets of the assaults are in their early to mid-20s, and they all described similar interactions with the guy.
Based on police data given by NBC News, there have been over 90 unprovoked assaults on individuals in Manhattan this year, with 50 of those attacks being against women.
According to a representative for the New York Police Department, Mr. Armstead is accused of hate crime/assault, attempted hate crime/assault, and severe harassment.
The ladies who are the targets of the assaults are in their early to mid-20s, and they all described similar interactions with the guy.
According to authorities, the Lower East Side, Tribeca, Greenwich Village, and the Bowery are the neighborhoods where all of the alleged assaults took place.
A number of popular films on social media have shown a wave of unjustified assaults against women, and this incident coincides with them.
"It was a man on the sidewalk who literally punched me," a victim said in a widely shared video.
"He goes 'sorry' and then punches me in the head."
Uncertainty surrounds Mr. Armstead's potential involvement in any of the incidents that garnered notice on social media.
As per the media in New York, he is the third individual detained so far in relation to the assaults.
Police have requested that any further victims come forward and provide information about their assaults.
