To increase US chip self-reliance, SK Hynix will construct an advanced factory in Indiana - FT

The Financial Times said on Thursday that South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix has selected Indiana as the location for a cutting-edge American factory.

According to a statement sent to Reuters by the firm, SK Hynix is still debating whether or not to make a definitive commitment in the US.

According to the article, which cited sources, the company's new packaging facility in Indiana will be focused on stacking regular dynamic random access memory chips to create high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which will then be combined with GPUs from Nvidia and integrated.

Currently, SK Hynix makes its HBM chips in South Korea. After that, the chips are sent to Taiwan, where Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing integrates them together with other TSMC-made CPUs into Nvidia's GPUs, according to the FT.
