Leading Congressman Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday that because Prime Minister Narendra Modi was born into the general category, he is not an Other Backward Caste (OBC) member.
On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, during the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Rourkela, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi greets fans.
Leading Congressman Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday that because Prime Minister Narendra Modi was born into the general category, he is not an Other Backward Caste (OBC) member.
"Modi ji is misleading people by saying that he is an OBC," the Wayanad MP remarked during a public gathering on the Odisha leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra. PM Modi is not an OBC by birth. He was born into the Teli caste of Gujarat. The Indian Bureau of Census (BJP) designated this group as OBC in 2000. He was raised in the common caste.Since he was born into the general caste and not the OBC, he would never consent to having the caste census done on him.
Additionally, he said that the Prime Minister embraces millionaires instead of shaking hands with OBCs.
In a speech to the legislature, Prime Minister Modi took a strong stance against the Congress and other opposition parties, charging that the UPA administration was failing to provide the OBCs with enough representation. Karpoori Thakur ji received the Bharat Ratna a few days ago. What did he not do to undermine his administration after he was elected Chief Minister of Bihar in 1970? Congress is unable to accept OBCs, and they are constantly tally the number of OBCs in the administration. PM Modi said, "Can't you (Congress) see the biggest OBC here (pointing towards himself)?"
Nonetheless, Prime Minister Modi directly blamed the UPA administration.
He said, "An extra-constitutional body was established under the UPA regime. Before that body, the government was unable to make its case. Did the National Advisory Council include any members who were OBC? Learn more."
In the meanwhile, the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra's Odisha leg is expected to come to an end this afternoon before taking a two-day rest on February 9–10. On February 11, the trek will resume in Chhattisgarh.
On January 14, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra began in Thoubal, Manipur. In 67 days, the trip will travel more than 6,700 kilometers via 110 districts. It would go 6,713 kilometers, passing through 110 districts, 337 assembly constituencies, and 100 Lok Sabha seats. After 67 days, the yatra will come to a finish in Mumbai on March 20.
Yatra 2.0, a hybrid format, is a sequel to the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', when Rahul Gandhi walked more than 3,000 kilometers from Kanya Kumari to Srinagar.
