Indian Navy stops another attempt at piracy; Iranian team and Pakistan are rescued
According to a military official on Friday, the Indian Navy freed hostages in Iran and Pakistan and stopped another attempt at piracy off the coast of Somalia.
According to the Navy, information about attempted piracy on the fishing vessel FV Omari was seen on January 31. As a result, drones operating in the region for surveillance were able to react to the FV Omari and INS Omari, which were deployed for anti-piracy operations in the area. It was effective in finding Sharda. The boat was stopped by altering the path.
The crew of the FV Omaril, flying the Iranian flag, was kidnapped by seven pirates.
"INS Sharda escorted the ship in the early hours of Friday and made use of its integral helicopters and boats to negotiate with the pirates for the safe release of the crew along with the ship," reads a statement from the Indian Navy. Eleven Iranians and eight Pakistanis make up the boat's crew, and the ship has made sure they are released safely."
"The tireless efforts given by the missions deployed for anti-piracy as well as maritime security operations at sea, continuing to save precious lives at sea, maintaining the safety of all ships and sailors at sea," stated the Indian Navy. It represents the Indian Navy's commitment.
The event follows similar operations in which the Indian Navy, in less than 36 hours, freed two hijacked fishing boats and their crew members, comprising 19 Pakistani and 17 Iranian nationals, during two major rescue missions.
