Mahesh Gaikwad, the head of the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) faction, is said to have been shot on Friday night in Ulhasnagar, close to Mumbai, by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ganpat Gaikwad. The Hill Line police station is said to have been the scene of the incident. Due to a property dispute, Ganpat Gaikwad is accused of firing at Mahesh Gaikwad and has been taken into custody.

Five gunshots struck Mahesh Gaikwad and one of his followers, an eyewitness informed the media. After suffering injuries, army chief Mahesh Gaikwad was taken to a hospital in Thane city, whereupon a formal complaint was filed.

Reportedly, on Friday, as BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad and city head Mahesh Gaikwad were conversing in the senior inspector Anil Jagtap's hall at the Hill Line police station, BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad's supporters got into a brawl and started shooting at Mahesh Gaikwad.

Mahesh Gaikwad, a Shiv Sena MLA, was seriously hurt in the incident and is receiving medical attention at Jupiter Hospital in Thane.

About 40 kilometers from Mumbai, in Kalyan, Ganpat Gaikwad is the representative for the Kalyan East seat. In the Maharashtra administration, his party is allied with the forces of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Mahesh and Ganpat Gaikwad went to the police station to lodge a complaint after they got into a fight over something. Mahesh Gaikwad and his men were fired at by Ganpat Gaikwad as they were conversing simultaneously. A probe is under progress, according to DCP Sudhakar Pathare.

Additional CP Shinde said that when Mahesh Gaikwad and his entourage arrived at the police station, Ganpat Gaikwad's son had gone there to file a report over the property issue. Ganpat Gaikwad later made it to the police station as well.

According to the officer, Mahesh Gaikwad and his colleague were injured when Ganpat Gaikwad reportedly opened fire on them inside the senior inspector's room during the confrontation between the MLA and the Shiv Sena leader.

Yes, I did shoot him on my own. I don't regret anything. "What will I do if my son is being beaten inside the police station in front of the police?" Ganpat Gaikwad posed the question to a television program. He said he had fired five shots.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, according to the BJP MLA, is "trying to create an empire of criminals in Maharashtra." The Maharashtra government is in coalition with the BJP and the Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

"The only people born in Maharashtra will be criminals if Eknath Shinde becomes the Chief Minister." They have turned me, a decent guy, into a criminal today.

The two have been engaged in a back-and-forth over Gaekwad Kalyan East Legislative Assembly candidacy since last year. Both give each other no chance to target one another, and it is believed that their animosity is what led to the shooting incident.
