When fully built, the 60-acre campus, which costs Rs 1,600 crore, would be able to house 5,000 students.


On February 24, Mumbai's Kalyan saw the opening of a new campus of BITS Pilani, an engineering school operated by the Birla Group, by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.


The campus, which spans 60 acres and costs Rs 1,600 crore, would be able to hold 5,000 students when it is fully operational, according to Kumar Mangalam Birla, the institute's chancellor and group chairman.


The new campus now focuses on law, administration, and design instead of engineering. The law and management schools have been operating out of temporary locations in Powai since last year, while the design school finally opened its doors this past week.


Sitharaman said that 6,400 graduates are the founders or co-founders of several firms, and that 13 unicorns and two decacorns had grown from them during her speech at the campus's opening.


According to Sitharaman, 170 businesses have established themselves on BITS courses.


According to the Finance Minister, the institution has trained 600 public workers, 300 internationally renowned professors, and 7,300 Fortune 500 CEOs. Additionally, it has generated 6,200 businesses, and its incubation center has given birth to 170 companies, 30 of which have achieved unicorn status.


Established in 1964 in the Marwar district of Rajasthan, near Birla's hometown of Pilani, the college is home to 80,000 students spread over five campuses in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad. It was one of only six private institutions designated as renowned institutes. are Kalyan and Dubai.
