According to a business filing on Friday, founder Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com sold over 12 million shares of the online retailer and cloud services company for nearly $2 billion, shortly after he announced intentions to sell his shares next year.

According to the filing, the sales happened on Wednesday and Thursday.


Amazon said last week that Bezos will sell 50 million of the company's shares.

Bezos started Amazon as a bookshop in 1994. He left the firm as chief executive in 2021 and became executive chairman.

With a $200 billion net worth, he is now the second wealthiest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
