The lowest temperature dropped sharply as a result of snowfall and heavy rain, and those living in high-altitude tribal regions began to tremble from the extreme cold.


Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh has caused at least 720 roadblocks, including four national highways, and 2,243 transformer disruptions. The district of Shimla has the most blocked roads (250), followed by 163 in Chamba, 139 in Lahaul and Spiti, 67 in Kullu, 54 in Mandi, and 46 in Kinnaur. The data was given by the State Emergency Operations Centre.


Residents in high altitude tribal communities suffered under extreme cold wave conditions, with the mercury remaining 14–18 degrees Celsius below the freezing point. Snowfall and extensive rainfall caused a dramatic decrease in minimum temperatures.


According to Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh, media were briefed on Friday on the proactive step, which included moving equipment from low-lying places to snow-covered areas and using calcium chloride spray to clean roadways.


Triund had 75 cm of new snowfall in the previous 24 hours till 8 am, while Narkanda and Shikari Devi had 60 cm of snow covering them, Kamrunag and Chansal had 45 cm, Shilaru had 42.6 cm, and Shilaru had 35 cm. It partially snowed. The weather forecast states that there will be 30 cm of rain in the following locations: Kufri and Khara-Pathar, Kufri and Khadrala, Pangi, Jot, Bada Bhangal, Bir-Billing, Kapala, and Parashar Lake.


The state capital Shimla reported a low temperature of - 0.6 degrees Celsius and 5 cm of snowfall.


The lowest temperature was recorded at - 13.8 degrees Celsius in Kusumassery, minus 7.0 degrees in Kalpa, minus 6.1 degrees in Narkanda and Manali, and minus 5.4 degrees in Sumdo, per the meteorological data. Dalhousie also reported a temperature of - 3.1 C.


Snowfall on Friday in the Rajouri district's Pirpanjal region brought happiness to the faces of both visitors and farmers.


Rajouri district saw snowfall on the higher mountain peaks after a protracted dry period, while the lower regions saw much-needed rain.


Popular locations like DKG Dehra Ki Gali and Manyal Gali in Thanna Mandi tehsil are frequently frequented by tourists.


A teacher at the Government Higher Secondary School in Maniyal named Nazmul Hasan Dar expressed his joy at the much-needed snowfall.


"We are really enjoying the snowfall that we are seeing today after many days without it. This area also has tourism attractions. After a protracted wait, there has finally been snowfall this winter season because there was no rain or snowfall last year.Everyone is having fun in the snow today. In addition, this snow and rain will be beneficial for horticulture and agriculture. Since there was snow on the roads today, we only made nearly halfway through our stroll before the kids joined us. Very chilly," Nazmul Hasan Dar said.
