On February 14, 2019, in the valley's worst terror incident, a suicide bomber crashed his explosive-filled Scorpio SUV into a CRPF bus in south Kashmir, killing 40 personnel. Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for the incident and named the perpetrator as a Pulwama native, aged 20. Police said in March of that year that the "primary conspirator" of the assault, Jaish-e-Mohammed operator Mudasir Ahmed Khan, also known as "Mohammed Bhai," had died in an encounter.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, also honored the martyrs. "I honor the courageous martyrs of Pulwama who gave their life in defense of our nation. We will never forget the ultimate sacrifice he made. The country will always be grateful to our courageous soldiers.
Congressman Rahul Gandhi posted a picture on Instagram during his January 2023 visit to the scene of the Pulwama attack while participating in the Kashmir phase of the Bharat Jodo Yatra. "A humble homage and heartfelt salute to the courageous martyrs of the Pulwama terrorist attack." He made the ultimate sacrifice for the protection of India, and for that, the nation will always be grateful, wrote Gandhi.
What took place on February 14, 2019, in Pulwama?
Over forty troops were traveling from Jammu to Srinagar on a bus. It was a part of a convoy of 78 cars that included 2,547 CRPF officers. At around 3:30 pm, the SUV swerved off the side road at an acute angle and struck the bus, approximately 35 kilometers away from Srinagar city.
Adil Ahmed Dar, who joined the group in March 2018, is a native of Pulwama's Gundibagh area in south Kashmir. JeM recognized the suicide bomber inside the SUV.
CRPF probe finds a breakdown in intelligence
The CRPF carried out an internal inquiry into the errors that preceded the assault, as The Indian Express has previously reported. The study identified intelligence failure and the convoy's excessive length as the main causes of the attack.
This publication was informed by sources that although information of IED assaults was supplied, particular details regarding the convoy were not disclosed. The convoy was "visible and accessible" and "likely to leak information about the convoy's movements," he said, since it was 78 trucks too long.
