According to authorities, the lowest temperature at the Gulmarg skiing resort in north Kashmir was recorded at minus 12 degrees Celsius, which is a decrease of almost four degrees from the previous night's minus 7.6 degrees Celsius.

The yearly Amarnath Yatra base camp, Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in south Kashmir, reported a lowest temperature of - 11.9 degrees Celsius, 7.8 degrees colder than the night before.

According to authorities, the lowest temperature in the south Kashmiri towns of Kokernag and Qazigund was minus 9.4 degrees Celsius.


The lowest temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was recorded at minus 0.3 degrees Celsius.


The lowest recorded temperature in Kashmir, according to a private weather forecaster, was minus 17.1 degrees Celsius at Larnu in Kokernag. However, IMD Srinagar authorities only provide data for six significant meteorological stations in the valley. Following this, a low of minus 15.1 degrees Celsius was reported in the Sonamarg resort on the Srinagar-Leh route.


The intense cold wave that affected Sonamarg, sections of the Jammu area, and South Kashmir exceeded records. The coldest place is Larnu in Kokernag, which is -17.7 degrees Celsius. Sonamarg is next, at -15.1 degrees Celsius, according to private weather forecaster Faizan Arif, who shared the information on his X Twitter.


He said that Qazigund is experiencing its lowest temperature in the previous sixteen years.

Though the 40-day 'Chilla-e-Kalan', the worst winter season, ended earlier this week, Kashmir is still experiencing a chilly snap. There is a 10-day "Chilla-e-Bachha" (little cold) coming up after the 20-day "Chilla-e-Khurd" (small cold) that is now affecting the valley.
