After a 16-month hiatus, Vinesh Phogat returned to wrestling and won the national championship gold medal

Following knee surgery, Vinesh Phogat returned to the tournament with triumph, taking home the gold in the 55 kg weight class.

The gold medal in the 55 kg class was won by popular wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Sunday at the Senior National Wrestling Championship 2024 in Jaipur, an incredible accomplishment. The victory followed his victorious 16-month absence. In her last competition, Vinesh took home a bronze medal in the 2022 World Championships in Belgrade. She sadly had a knee injury that prevented her from competing in the most recent Asian Games, according to Olympics.com.

The two-time bronze medallist from the World Championships proved her domination by defeating Jyoti in under two minutes to win the 55kg class at the National Wrestling Championships in 2024. Following a knee replacement in August 2023, Vinesh is committed to go back to training in December.

Conversely, Anshu Malik, who won silver in the 2021 World Championships and the 2022 Commonwealth Games, demonstrated her exceptional abilities by winning the gold in the women's 59kg division. Anshu defeated four-time Asian medalist Sarita Mor with a score of 8-3 to win the match.

Anshu took advantage of a fast break to show off her athleticism. She then made two impressive two-pointers to lead by eight points early in the second quarter. Anshu's knee received the brunt of Sarita's assault, enabling her to successfully defend and eventually secure a strong victory.

2010 Asian Championships and Commonwealth Games medallist Nirmala overcame Neelam in an exciting bout to earn the gold in the 50kg class. His outstanding achievement proved his steadfast competence and drive.
