Rather of presenting the whole year's budget, the Finance Minister will only deliver the interim one before to the Lok Sabha elections.

In 2019, Sitharaman unveiled her first budget. She presented five consecutive Union budgets last year, making history as the sixth finance minister to do so.

On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will unveil the financial year 2024–25 budget. The Finance Minister will submit the budget, which is an interim budget before the Lok Sabha elections, for the sixth year in a row.

In 2019, Sitharaman unveiled her first budget. She presented five consecutive Union budgets last year, making history as the sixth finance minister to do so. The other finance ministers who have given five or more consecutive budgets are Arun Jaitley, P. Chidambaram, Yashwant Sinha, Manmohan Singh, and Morarji Desai.

Following his appointment as the Finance Minister in the Modi administration in 2014, Jaitley presented five straight budgets between 2014–15 and 2018–19. The colonial-era custom of delivering the budget from the last working day of February to the first day of the month was abandoned by Jaitley in 2017.

The ministry's extra charge owing to Jaitley's illness is Piyush Goyal, who unveiled the interim 2019–20 budget.

Following the 2019 general elections, Sitharaman was named Union Finance Minister in the Modi 2.0 administration. Following Indira Gandhi, who delivered the budget for the fiscal year 1970–71, she became the second woman to present the budget. Sitharaman decided to store the speech and other papers in a "ledger" emblazoned with the national insignia, rather than the customary budget briefcase. The custom of carrying budget documents in a briefcase was imported from Britain. The briefcase utilized for India's budget was a replica of the "Gladstone box" that is used in the British budget.

In response to the COVID-19 epidemic, India unveiled a number of pro-poor policies under Sitharaman, maintaining its status as the leading country with the quickest rate of growth and a "bright spot" in the global economy.

Sitharaman's maiden budget presentation was the Union Budget 2019. It emphasized the government's objective of growing India's GDP to $5 trillion. He discussed bringing the Digital India program to every economic area. The budget also emphasized the Ayushman Bharat scheme's objective of enhancing national health.

Under the Make in India program, he also concentrated on MSMEs, start-ups, military manufacturing, cars, electronics, fabs and batteries, and medical devices. He spoke for almost two hours and fifteen minutes.
