MANREGA: The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MANREGA) has undergone modifications to its regulations. MGNREGA: The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA – MNREGA) has revised regulations. As in the new year, all MNREGA payments would be disbursed via the Aadhaar-based Payment System (ABPS), necessitating the connection of employees' Aadhaar data to their employment cards.

This is the sixth postponement of the deadline for ABPS mandatory implementation. This gave the state governments until December 31, 2023, to match the database. The pace at which MGNREGA employment cards are being removed has grown dramatically since the first attempts in this direction, and field workers claim that this is directly related to the payment process's required adoption.

On January 30, 2023, the first order implementing the ABPS was issued. Extensions were then given until February 1, March 31, June 30, August 31, and December 31. 34.8% of people have an employment card, according to statistics from the Union Rural Development Ministry. Till December 27th, you are still not qualified to use this payment option.

Countless workers remain ineligible.

According to government sources, active workers, not employment card holders, are the ones who ordered that the deadline not be extended once again. Those who have worked at least one day throughout the previous three fiscal years are considered active workers. 12.7% of these employed individuals were still ineligible for ABPS as of December 27. 14.35 crore of the 25.25 crore workers who enrolled under the Major Rural Employment Scheme are considered active workers.
