Income tax refund: Up till January 10, 2024, taxpayers have received tax refunds of Rs 2.48 lakh crore. This information has been provided by the Income Tax Department.

The Income Tax Department has disclosed the tax refund status. Taxpayers have received a total tax refund of Rs 2.48 lakh crore till January 10, 2024. For the assessment year 2023–2024, taxpayers received refunds of Rs 2.48 lakh crore between April 1, 2023, and January 10, 2024, according to the Income Tax Department.

The only way to check status is online. Your registered email address and cellphone number get notifications if a refund is applied to your account.

How to verify the status of a refund

Visit the Income Tax Department's official website, incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in, first.

Once the website loads, enter your PAN card, user ID, and captcha code to log in.

Click the option to see income tax return after that.

Choose another choice here to go to Income Tax Return.

Choose the evaluation year and send it in.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) reported a spike in direct tax collection, saying that "the net direct tax collection is Rs 14.70 lakh crore after refund." This is a 19.41% increase over the direct tax revenue obtained in the same time frame of the previous fiscal year. This amounts to 80.61 percent of the budgeted direct tax estimate for the fiscal year 2023–2024.
