In the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed and laid the foundation stone for a number of projects totaling Rs. 1,150 crore on Wednesday.

Hundreds of islanders attended the occasion when these projects were inaugurated.

This includes the project he introduced in August 2020 at his Independence Day address at the Red Fort, the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI – SOFC).

The revolutionary program attempts to address Lakshadweep's issue of sluggish internet connections.

As a consequence, the internet speed on the islands will go from 1.7 Gbps to 200 Gbps, a more than 100-fold increase, according to authorities.

He stated that a major development in the communication infrastructure has occurred with the introduction of undersea optical fiber cable to link Lakshadweep.

According to him, this would boost the islands' use of digital banking, telemedicine, e-governance, education, internet services, and literacy.

The Low Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) facility in Kadmat, which will generate 1.5 lakh liters of potable water daily, was also opened by the prime minister.

He also dedicated the Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to all Agatti as well as Minicoy Islands households on behalf of the country.

Modi has initiated many more initiatives, like as the first battery-supported solar power project in Lakshadweep and the solar power plant in Kavaratti.

Additionally, he lay the groundwork for the development of five model Anganwadi facilities (Nand Ghar) on the five islands of Androth, Chetlat, Kadmat, Agatti, as well as Minicoy, as well as the refurbishment of the main health facility at Kalpeni.
