December saw a rise to 213.62 GW, the largest supply of electricity in a day, or the maximum power demand satisfied. In December 2022, the highest electricity supply was 205.10 GW, whereas in December 2021, it was 189.24 GW.

In December, India's energy consumption fell 2.3% to 119.07 billion units.

The nation's power usage fell 2.3% to 119.07 billion units (BU) in December, the first monthly decrease in eight months, according to official statistics. This was mainly because fewer people were using heating appliances, notably in the north where the winter was mild.

In comparison to the same time last year, when electricity consumption was 132.02 BU, it decreased by almost 1.5% to 130.08 BU in April 2023. According to the statistics, December 2022 saw 121.91 BU of power used, which is more than the 109.17 BU reported in the same month the previous year. December saw a rise to 213.62 GW, the largest supply of electricity in a day, or the maximum power demand satisfied. In December 2022, the highest electricity supply was 205.10 GW, whereas in December 2021, it was 189.24 GW.

Experts claim that both demand and consumption of power were low during the first two weeks of December because of the mild winter. However, since mercury dramatically dropped in the second half of the month, particularly in North India, consumption and demand increased. According to the statistics, on December 29, the greatest electricity consumption was 213.62 GW. On December 3, it was measured up to 174.16 GW. On December 14, 2023, with a temperature of 200.56 GW, it surpassed the 200 GW threshold.

The Power Ministry predicted that throughout the summer, the nation's power consumption will amount to 229 GW. Unseasonal rains prevented the demand from rising to the anticipated level in April through July. But in June, the maximum supply reached a record high of 224.1 GW, but in July, it dropped to 209.03 GW. In August, the maximum demand was 238.82 GW. It measured 243.27 GW in September 2023. In October 2023, the greatest demand was 222.16 GW, while in November 2023, it was 204.86 GW.

According to industry analysts, this year's significant rains in March, April, May, and June had an impact on electricity usage. According to him, the rainy season and a spike in industrial activity before the festival season were the major causes of the rise in energy use in August, September, and October. Due to improved economic activity and a harsher winter, experts predict a steady rise in electricity use in the next months.
