500 Rupee Note: On January 22, 2024, would the Reserve Bank of India, which oversees the banking industry, introduce a new series of notes featuring images of Lord Shri Ram? Will the RBI print 500 rupee notes with images of Lord Ram and the Ram temple under construction in Ayodhya? A photograph of a Rs 500 note featuring images of Lord Shri Ram and the Ram temple under construction in Ayodhya is doing the rounds on social media as the dedication of the temple dedicated to him is scheduled for January 22 in Ayodhya.

Instead of a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi, there is one of Shri Ram.

Upon examining the social media posts on the Rs 500 note featuring Lord Shri Ram and the Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya, we find that, in contrast to the note featuring the image of Mahatma Gandhi, the viral post has a photo of Lord Shri Ram together with the note. There is a picture of the Ram temple in Ayodhya under construction where there is a picture of the Red Fort. On social media, a note for Rs 500 with a picture of Lord Shri Ram is popular.

Do fresh series notes get released by the RBI?

While this note is going viral, the Reserve Bank of India has not yet made any announcements on the issue of a new series of Rs 500 notes featuring an image of Lord Shri Ram. Sources claim that the Rs 500 note with images of Lord Shri Ram that is going viral is a fake. Expert in the banking industry and Voice of Banking founder Ashwani Rana said that the RBI has not made any such announcements or provided any information. This is bogus news, he said. No new notes in the Rs 500 series will be issued by RBI.

RBI has already refuted this.

The image of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, has been replaced with another image on new series of Rs 500 notes before. According to reports in June 2022, the RBI is thinking of producing a new series of bank notes with the images of former President APJ Kalam and Rabindranath Tagore, Missile Man, in place of the image of Mahatma Gandhi on current banknotes and currencies. Subsequently, RBI had to clarify and refute this report. The RBI then said that no such proposal was pending.
