The initiative, which was announced in August 2020, is to raise Delhi's electric car percentage to 25% by 2024.

Officials said that the Delhi government has chosen to prolong its electric vehicle (EV) policy for an additional three months, since it was scheduled to expire on Sunday.

The initiative, which was announced in August 2020, is to raise Delhi's electric car percentage to 25% by 2024.

According to an official, the cabinet would now accept the extension until March 31, 2024.

After being repeatedly extended, the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy, 2020 expired on August 8 of this year. The new regulation regarding electric vehicles is being worked on, but authorities are unsure of when it will be put into effect.

Speaking to PTI recently, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said that the Electric car Policy 2.0 would support car retrofitting due to the high expense.

He had said that it would be very expensive—between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 6 lakh—to convert a typical Gypsy.
