DA/DR 7th Pay Commission Update: Will central personnel get the fixed or suspended Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for the 18 months between January 2020 and June 2021?

Pay Commission Seventh Dearness Allowance: The nation's government workers and retirees have some exciting news. There is now optimism that they will get the dearness assistance and allowance that they were denied during the COVID-19 pandemic. Actually, a proposal in this respect has been received by the Finance Ministry. In light of this, it has been suggested and demanded that government workers and pensioners get the dearness allowance/dear relief that was halted during the Covid-19 crisis for a period of 18 months. If this is approved, federal workers and retirees will get excellent news in the budget or shortly thereafter.

Who has put forward the idea?

As to the report in Economic Times, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has received a letter to this effect from Bharatiya Immunity Mazdoor Sangh. General Secretary Mukesh Singh of the labor union has asked the Central Government's Finance Ministry to refund allowances like DA and DR that were halted and suspended. One may argue that this proposal was made with the presumption that the Modi administration at the Center could acquiesce to this demand in order to win over millions of government workers and retirees.

When were the DA and DR not provided?

The distribution of dearness relief and dearness allowance to central staff was halted for the 18-month period from January 2020 to June 2021 because to the Covid-19 epidemic. Nevertheless, State Minister of Finance Pankaj Choudhary had already said in a written response to Parliament that it does not seem to be feasible to pay the DA/DR arrears for this time because of the difficult Covid period of the fiscal year 2020–21.

Why may the dearness relief and dearness allowance arrears be issued till February?

In an effort to win over central workers and retirees, it is anticipated that the Modi administration would decide to raise dearness allowance and dearness relief in January and February. In reality, the first week of March is when the Election Commission is supposed to declare the dates of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The nation will adopt the code of conduct at the announcement of election dates. The central government won't be able to raise the dearness allowance after this.
