By the end of 2022, the Pittsburgh-based firm was expected to employ 1,700 people, according on the company's financial filings.

Aurora Innovation, a firm that develops technologies for autonomous vehicles, said on Wednesday that it has reorganized, resulting in a 3% reduction in staff.

By the end of 2022, Aurora employed 1,700 people, according to the company's financial filings.

"We just assessed the whole organization to make sure we are working as efficiently as possible as we head towards commercial launch...A small number of positions were eliminated throughout this process, impacting 3% of our whole staff." Senior vice president of people Christopher Barrett was named in the company's statement.

The Pittsburgh-based business is developing technology that will power self-driving trucks in the future. It went public in 2021 via a merger with a blank check firm.

With the help of Volvo and Continental AG, Aurora intends to introduce its first fleet of autonomous trucks onto public roads this year.

The business said earlier this month that the hardware design as well as architecture for the Aurora Driver autonomous driving system, which Continental intends to launch in 2027, had been completed.

After a first driverless launch scheduled for late 2024, Aurora claimed that the collaboration with the German firm provides a route to the widespread deployment of autonomous vehicles.
