Schools Closed: All board schools up to Intermediate have been closed until Saturday (January 6) due to the rain and cold wave that have affected numerous districts, as well as concerns for the kids' health and safety.

UP Schools Closed: Due to the rain and cold wave that have affected several UP districts, schools up to the Intermediate level (UP Board, CBSE, CISCE, Madrasa, and Sanskrit Board) will stay closed on Saturday, January 6. This decision was made with the safety and well-being of the children in mind. This directive was given on Wednesday by Prayagraj's District School Inspector, PN Singh. In contrast, DM Krishna Karunesh said in Gorakhpur that classes up to class 12 would stay closed till January 6 due to concerns about the health of the pupils during the cold.

On the other hand, DIOS Rajesh Kumar in Meerut has threatened to take action if schools are opened on holidays. On Wednesday, students were seen attending some schools despite the cold wave having declared all board students up to class 8 off. Vineet Chaprana, a student leader, too tweeted his displeasure to the DM in this respect. According to DIOS Rajesh Kumar, if the schools are open, they would be looked at in this respect. Children in all boards up to class eight get a holiday. Children are off till January 6th. After seven days of fighting very thick fog, Meerut has been further entrenched in the cold winter. Wednesday's nighttime lows in Meerut, which was experiencing very chilly daytime temperatures, also decreased. The maximum temperature dropped again to 13.4 degrees Celsius after rising to 16 degrees Celsius over the previous two days owing to sporadic sunlight. 5.6 degrees Celsius has also been reported as the nighttime temperature. Daytime highs have fallen by five degrees Celsius and nighttime lows by one degree Celsius, respectively, in this scenario. The heavy fog and lack of sunshine will make it much colder. There is now no chance of reprieve from the cold for 48–72 hours.

However, DM has done away with the need for uniforms in schools due to Lucknow's severe winter. DM Suryapal Gangwar issued an order on Wednesday that declared classes 1 through 8 to be closed till January 6 and classes 9 through 12 to be open from 10 am to 3 pm. The order further requested that kids wear warm clothing to school in order to prevent the cold. The order is now in effect.

Kanpur experiences a hailstorm

Stormy winds were unexpectedly produced by the clash of moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal with the western disturbance. Along with the rain and hailstorm, there came thunder and lightning. CSA recorded a rainfall of 10 mm. As a result, the melting cold peaked. According to the Meteorological Department, there's a chance for further rain in the next day or two. On Wednesday, about three in the morning, the clouds began to thunder. The winds increased in speed over time. Then it began to rain, accompanied by lighting and thunder. This pattern persisted until eleven or twelve in the morning.

Three systems colliding at once created a good environment for rain. Even the Indian Meteorological Department was taken aback by this. There had been 2.4 mm of rain from 3 am until 8:30 am. Rainfall totaled 7.6 mm up to midday. The weather changed with a total of 10 mm of rain. There was hail in the city's southern region as well.
