In a move toward renewable energy, NHPC and Gujarat Power Corporation (GPCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 3, 2024, for the latter's involvement in the 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project. signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).


A preliminary deal has been inked by NHPC to spend Rs 4,000 crore in the Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project, which is a 750 MW project located in Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat. In a move toward renewable energy, NHPC and Gujarat Power Corporation (GPCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 3, 2024, for the latter's involvement in the 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project. signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).


Per the announcement, the Memorandum of Understanding was inked at an occasion hosted by 'Vibrant Gujarat' at the Secretariat in Gandhinagar. In the absence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel as well as state Energy Minister Kanubhai Desai, GPCL Managing Director Arun Mahesh Babu and NHPC Executive Director, Renewable Energy as well as Green Hydrogen, V Srivastava, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.


The projected 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project in Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat, would get an estimated Rs 4,000 crore in funding from NHPC, under the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding. According to the statement, this project's execution would strengthen the local economy and provide a large number of job possibilities.


With 25 power plants and an installed capacity of 7,097.2 MW of renewable energy, including 1,520 MW via subsidiaries, NHPC Limited is the largest hydropower firm in India.
