The biggest tragedy to occur in Victorian seas in over 20 years claimed the lives of four Indians, including two women, in a drowning event at an unattended beach in the Australian state of Victoria, authorities said on Thursday. The event happened at Victoria's Phillip Island on Wednesday.

At around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, emergency personnel went to reports of four individuals struggling in the water close to Newhaven and discovered that none of them could be revived, according to News.com.

"Life Saving Victoria was called to the assistance of four distinct individuals in distress in the waters of Forrest Caves on Phillip Island, approximately a few kilometers from our patrol lifeguard site," indicated Commander Ken Treloar of the state organization Life Saving Victoria.

Three of those individuals had been rescued from the sea by off-duty lifeguards, and the last person had been rescued by one of our rescue boats when our lifeguards arrived on the scene.

The rescue crew started CPR on all of the unconscious and unresponsive victims. The victims' identities have not yet been made public by the authorities.

Treloar said that sadly, three of them passed away in spite of everyone's best attempts. The terrible drowning tragedy was shared on Thursday by the Indian High Commission in Canberra.

Treloar said on Thursday that it was the worst drowning that the state has seen in many years. The victims were a male, two women in their 20s, and a woman in her 40s, according to information released on Thursday by Karen Nyholm, assistant commissioner of Victoria Police Eastern Region.

He added that the people who visited was an extended family. Nyholm said that the deceased lady, 43, was on vacation in Australia, and authorities verified that the other three victims were residents of the Clyde area of Melbourne.

Three individuals, a lady in her 20s and a male, died away at the site. The third person was transported to Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, where she later passed away. Four individuals have lost their lives in this catastrophe, and it's reasonable to assume that their families would be greatly affected, according to Nyholm.
