7th Pay Commission: Starting in the new year, central government workers will get twice the perks. The DA may rise by 4% to 5% in the next year. The DA will approach 50% in this scenario. When the DA hits 50%, the government may raise HRA, i.e. Allowance for Housing Rent. Government workers' salaries will rise after the HRA hike. Government workers get HRA based on the city in which they are employed. Employees in the salaried class who reside in rented housing are eligible for the House Rent Allowance. Workers are categorized according to their city and requirements at home.

In January, the central government will raise DA.

Currently, 46% of central workers get DA. This is in effect from July 2023 until December 2023. January 2024 will see the next hike in DA, which is anticipated to be announced around Holi. Based on AICPI index half-yearly data, the DA and DR rates of employees-pensioners are updated in January and July. The DA was raised by 8% overall in 2023, which included increases in January and July. The next DA revision is now scheduled for 2024, and it will be based on data from the AICPI index for the months of July through December of 2023. It's now thought that this time, it may reach 50%. The government would also raise HRA whenever DA reaches 50%.

HRA is separated into three groups.

The allocation for house rent is split into three groups. These classifications are Z, Y, and X.

(i) Areas having a population of at least 50 lakh fall under the "X" category. According to the Central Pay Commission's (CPC) decision under the 7th Pay Commission, employees in this group get 24 percent of their HRA.

(ii) Areas having a population of five lakh to fifty lakh are designated as "Y." Employees residing in this area get HRA equal to sixteen percent of their base pay.

(iii) Employees in the "Z" category work in areas with a population of less than five lakh. HRA is provided here at 8%. HRA is now available to workers in the following categories: 18% for Y category, 9% for Z category, and 27% for X category.
