Before the explosion, according to police in Arlington County, Virginia, someone shot a flare pistol and more bullets from within their house.


A guy shot a flare gun from inside a residence in Arlington, Virginia, on Monday night, and police claimed that while they investigated, a large explosion consumed the house and rocked the area.


Although it was not immediately obvious what happened to the suspect who was inside the house when the explosion occurred, officials said that no police officers were gravely hurt.


Social media videos showed a massive fireball, roof, and other debris being hurled into the air during the explosion, which residents in the suburb of Washington, D.C., said could be felt as well as heard for miles. Could.

A potential gunshot was reported by nearby residents around 4:45 p.m. Police discovered that someone had shot a flare pistol, according to Arlington County police spokesperson Ashley Savage.


According to a police statement, investigators "attempted to contact the suspect over the telephone and via loudspeaker" after obtaining a search warrant for the residence in the 800 block of North Burlington Street.


"The suspect fired multiple shots, believed to be a firearm, into the home," according to police, as they were trying to carry out a search order on behalf of the unresponsive individual inside.


The detonation happened at around 8:25 p.m.


The fire was being watched at the site, but according to the fire department, it was under control by approximately 10:40 p.m.


It has been impossible for authorities to access the house and determine if any fatalities have occurred. According to Savage, the suspect was inside when the explosion happened.


"At this point, we only know of one person who was inside the home," Savage said.


Early on Tuesday, police released a statement saying, "The individual fired the flare gun approximately 30 to 40 times through the inside his residence into the surrounding neighborhood."


The individual at issue in this instance has not disclosed their identify. According to Savage, the cause of the explosion is being looked into.


Though she was kept away by the police, Carla Rodriguez, a resident of South Arlington, arrived to the site after hearing the explosion from almost two miles away.


He said to The Associated Press, "I honestly thought a plane had exploded."


The explosion rocked the home of a local guy named Bob Mains, who believed a tree had fallen on his house.


Mains told The Associated Press, "I was watching television in my living room when the whole house shook." "It hadn't been an earthquake-like shock, nevertheless the whole house shook."


On Twitter, U.S. Representative Don Beyer (D-Va.) described the situation as "very, very scary" and expressed gratitude to first responders for their efforts.


Officers reported minor injuries, according to county police. According to the police department, nobody was hospitalized.


According to a representative of the FBI's field office in Washington, the agency is supporting the inquiry. Additionally, fire investigators from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives stated they were on the site and available to help.
